Looking Like An Idiot In Social Situations
Social situations.
We have to deal with them daily, whether with friends, family, strangers, or anyone in between. Some of us are terrific at it, and others are awful.
However, over the last few months, I realized I have a major issue with not understanding social situations.
And, damn, it sucks sometimes.
I’ve Never Had it Easy
Socially, public school sucked for me.
I was the weird foster care girl with special needs who rode the little bus for much of her elementary school days. So, I didn’t have friends to start showing me the social ropes.
And while I did out-of-school activities like Girl Scouts and dance, half of the time, I still was awkward and often on the outskirts of social groups.
Even when I switched to homeschooling and attended classes through the program, I still didn’t feel like I belonged among my peers besides a few friends I’d made.
